With the Turkey dinner cleared from the Thanksgiving table, several Merrimack Valley cities and towns are officially starting to think Christmas. Methuen and Andover are among the local areas planning to light their community’s holiday trees next week.

Andover’s “Light Up the Night” event takes place on Friday, Dec. 7, with carnival rides, live music and a craft fair adding to the fun from 4-8 p.m. at Old Town Hall.

In Methuen, Santa stops by The Loop on Sunday, Dec. 2 during the city’s official tree lighting. Cookie decorating and a holiday hayride are two of the family-friendly activities planned when the Holiday Festival takes over the Marshall’s parking lot at 90 Pleasant Valley St. starting at 4 p.m.

All events are free and open to all.
