A pre-Thanksgiving traffic stop in Andover led to police getting a large amount of drugs off the streets—and putting two Tewksbury residents behind bars.

Chief Patrick Keefe said narcotics detectives were conducting surveillance on River Road around 4 p.m. on Wednesday when three officers pulled over a car they believed to be involved in an alleged drug deal.

Following the traffic stop, 34-year-old Felipe Fernandes and 24-year-old Lidiane Fernandes, both of Tewksbury, were arrested and charged with one count each of cocaine trafficking, police said.

Police seized approximately one kilogram of suspected cocaine in the process.

Kept in custody over the Thanksgiving holiday at the Andover Police Department, the pair was scheduled for arraignment in Lawrence District Court on Friday.
