It was a disappointing—and bitterly cold—Thanksgiving Day on the field for Haverhill High’s football Hillies, with the brown and gold losing their annual holiday game against Lowell in a final score of 24-8.
As WHAV’s Paul Ryan confirmed during the DiPietro Heating and Cooling post-game recap show, the Hillies just couldn’t stand up to the likes of Lowell wide receiver Brendan Tighe and quarterback Aidan Foyle.
“Brendan Tighe played a great game and the Hillies just couldn’t stop the young man. That’s the story of the game: He was phenomenal,” Ryan said of the Lowell junior who wears jersey No. 16.
With Thursday’s loss, the Hillies finish out their varsity season with a record of 4-7. As WHAV Sports Director Ryan explained, the team started strong but lost—and couldn’t regain—momentum once midseason hit.
“The season started out so promising and went awry and stayed awry,” Ryan said.
Elsewhere across the Merrimack Valley, North Andover beat Andover 41-27, while Methuen triumphed over Dracut in Turkey Day ball 26-20.
