Haverhill’s Jaffarian Volvo Toyota has come to the aid of neighbors in need. Gary Jaffarian, the president and CEO of the River Street car dealership, recently donated $15,000 to the Essex Community Foundation, earmarking funds for the Greater Lawrence Disaster Relief Fund.

Jaffarian’s donation will support the ongoing efforts to help neighbors in Andover, North Andover and Lawrence rebuild after the Sept. 13 gas-related fires displaced hundreds from their homes.

“Our customers came through again in partnership to the support our community and those in need,” Jaffarian told WHAV in a statement. “When crises happen, I’m proud of how the Merrimack Valley responds.”

Following pressure from Lawrence Mayor Daniel Rivera and other local leaders, Columbia Gas parent company NiSource rescinded an offer to give all work crews the day off for Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday. Instead, several crews will continue repair efforts across the Valley on the holiday.
