Haverhill’s Fire Department is set to welcome two new recruits after Christian Dion and Gregory Ryan graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy on Monday.
The men were among 38 men who completed the 50-day career recruit firefighter training program, and will be assigned to 28 fire departments around the state, according to State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey.
“This rigorous professional training provides our newest firefighters with the basic skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely,” said Ostroskey of the program, in which training is offered in both a classroom and live fire setting. Students who graduate the program learn search and rescue techniques, ladder operations, water pump operation and fire attack operations.
Haverhill Fire Chief William F. LaLiberty tells WHAV Dion and Ryan will work out of the Water Street station while they complete on-the-job training.
Other local graduates include Ryan Colvin and Luis Nigaglioni Jr., who will both suit up as part of the Methuen Fire Department.
