Laurie J. Leger, 88, Former Engineer for Honeywell

Laurie J. Leger, 88, husband of Dorice M. (Maillet) Leger, died Nov. 11 in Haverhill with his loving family by his side.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late Placide and Ursule (Cormire) Leger. Raised and educated in New Brunswick where he was one of 12, he was a graduate of ECM High School with the class of 1948. He came to the United States in 1958 and attended Merrimack College, studying engineering. Employed at Honeywell and Digital in engineering design and consulting for many years, Leger was known as a “tinkerer” and loved to fix things and enjoyed keeping busy around his home. He enjoyed golfing, ocean fishing at Hampton Beach and traveling with his wife along the East Coast in their motor home. After retirement, he wintered in Tequesta, Fla., and summered in St. Edwards, New Brunswick, Canada. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great-grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife Dorice, he is survived by his children, Robert J. Leger and his wife Anne of Haverhill, Ivan J. Leger and his wife Paula of Haverhill, Joanne M. Varneke and her fiance Peter Ledwith, Jr. of Southington, Conn., Donna M. Cox and her husband John of Port St. Lucie, Fla., nine grandchildren Jason Trask and his fiancee Cindy Villigran, Monique and Chris Balzer, Jennifer and Lance Matias, Mathew and Beth Leger, Janelle and Jason Caron, Julie Leger and Gerry Winning, Cheryl and Jeremy Sirois, Annette and Sean Sughrue, Stacie Leger and Joshua Ovares, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is predeceased by his children Mary Leger and Achille Leger, grandson Joseph Trask, and 11 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill.
