On Wednesday night’s Great Gildersleeve, it’s American Education Week, but it’s Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve who learns a lesson.

Gildersleeve, played by Willard Waterman, becomes smitten with nephew Leroy’s teacher, Miss Grace Tuttle, played by Mary Shipp. Laughter ensues when the water commissioner intervenes when Leroy complains about his history grade.

Recurring character for the fall, 1952 season, Egg delivery man Cooley continues to pop in at the most inopportune times.

In real life, this week marks the 97th annual American Education Week, designed “to demonstrate how much we appreciate the educators who nurture and support each and every student in our schools,” according to the National Education Association.

The Great Gildersleeve airs at 10 p.m., Wednesday, with an encore performance at 1 a.m., over 97.9 WHAV FM.
