Ready, set, drop those turkeys! The Kiwanis Club of Haverhill’s annual pre-Thanksgiving fundraiser takes over Murphy’s Garrison Golf on Hilldale Avenue on Saturday, Nov. 10 for the third annual turkey drop contest.

For $10, community members may purchase a ticket with a number that corresponds to a random square on a landing grid. For every rubber turkey—dropped from a helicopter—that lands in that square, the ticket holder wins a prize. In the past, prizes have ranged from Mann’s Orchard pies to Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards, and even frozen turkeys.

Money raised supports local charities, with tickets available for purchase by calling WHAV at 978-374-1900. Prize winners will be notified by Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The event is inspired by a 1978 Thanksgiving episode of the television series “WKRP in Cincinnati.”

During the television show, here is how newscaster Les Nessman covered the fiasco: “Oh my god, they’re turkeys. Johnny, can you get this? They’re crashing to the Earth right in front of our eyes. One just went through the windshield of a parked car. This is trouble. Everyone is running around pushing each other. Oh my goodness. Oh, the humanity.”
