Haverhill’s eager boys and ghouls will have to watch the weather this weekend, as Mayor James J. Fiorentini intends to hold citywide trick or treat on Saturday—despite considering moving the date due to impending rain.
Taking to social media earlier this week to poll residents on a possible reschedule of the candy grab to Friday, Oct. 26 or Wed, Oct. 31, Fiorentini said Wednesday that the traditional pre-holiday date stands.
“We would prefer not to move the date. If it is only a light rain, we will keep it on Saturday,” Fiorentini said, advising families to look out for an automated call if a change in plans occurs. A new date will be announced if the weather makes conditions unsafe, Fiorentini added.
Haverhill is one of several area communities marking the spooky spectacle with citywide trick or treat events. Andover, Methuen, Plaistow, N.H. and Sandown, N.H. all intend to have little gobblins take over on Wednesday night at varying times between 5-8 p.m.
