Mary K. (Platsis) Comeau, 96, of Haverhill, wife of the late Joseph D. Comeau, passed away Oct. 20, surrounded by her family.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Vaseleke (Matheos) Platsis. Raised and educated in Haverhill, she was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1941. Comeau attended Northern Essex Community College where she studied accounting. She was a resident of Haverhill all her life. Comeau was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the shipping department. She also worked for J. Leo Cronin Accounting, Ritchie Drug Company, Lucent Technologies and the Internal Revenue Service for several years in North Andover. She enjoyed life to the fullest and had a passion for traveling. She loved dancing, music, crocheting, crossword puzzles and watching the news.
She loved to cook and enjoyed preparing her many signature dishes for all her family and friends to enjoy, especially on the holidays. She was a member of the New Outlook Pioneers Group, the Philoptochos Elpis Society and was a past president of GAPA. Comeau was active and dedicated to her church and was the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors for the Holy Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She adored her family and delighted in many years of family filled celebrations. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She loved life and everyone in it.
Comeau is survived by her son; Dennis A. Comeau and his fiance` Gayle Nardone Faro of Haverhill and Wenham; grandson, Christopher Brookins and Tabitha Siros of Haverhill; sister, Dr. Christine Parish of Charlottesville, Va. niece, Susan L. Parish of Boston; nephew, Steven J. Parish of Charlottesville, Va.; caretaker and niece, Ann Faucher of Haverhill; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her husband Joseph, she was predeceased by her sisters Constance Fotos, Sophie Gobbi, and nephews James Emmells, William Ammells, Ryan Neumann, Alex Zavalianos, James Parish, Norman, Thomas and Stephen Comeau, Russell Bailey and niece Leslie Tidd.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 2-6 p.m, at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Green Orthodox Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery, John Ward Avenue, Haverhill.
