Lowell Police are searching for a 26-year-old Haverhill man considered to be “armed and dangerous” after an early Sunday morning shooting. An arrest warrant for Dwayne Johnson has been issued and carries the charge of armed assault with intent to murder, police said.

At 2:19 a.m. Oct. 7, officers responded to the area of Middle and Palmer Streets in Lowell for a reported shooting and found a 24-year-old man, also from Haverhill, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Transported to a local hospital before being med-flighted to Boston, the man shot is said to be in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses told police the victim was with friends at Palmer Street’s Village Smokehouse and encountered Johnson as the victim was leaving. Police said the men “appeared to have a history and were going to have an altercation” when Johnson allegedly took out a gun and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.

A weapon possibly used in the shooting was recovered in a nearby alley, police said.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to call Lowell Police at 978-937-3200.
