A semi-automatic handgun, about 150 grams of suspected fentanyl, equipment typically used for packaging and distributing fentanyl and almost $8,000 in cash were taken during an Andover drug sweep Thursday.

Twenty-five-year-old Radhames Antonio Diaz-Jimenez of Andover man was arrested after a search of 800 Bullfinch Drive, said Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe. Diaz-Jimenez was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of a firearm without a license, identity theft and distribution of fentanyl.

“This was a significant arrest and seizure that results in the removal of a significant amount of a deadly opioid from potentially reaching members of our community or surrounding communities,” Keefe said. The raid was undertaken by the Andover Police Department Substance Abuse Unit and Detective Unit as part of an ongoing investigation by Andover Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Cross Border initiative.

Diaz-Jimenez  was arraigned Friday in Lawrence District Court.
