Carol A. (Venis) Huggan, 79, of Groveland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert P. Huggan, to whom she was married for 58 years.
She was born in Boston on Nov. 4, 1938, the daughter of the late Jerome T. and Anne M. Venis. A proud Lithuanian, she was raised and educated in the “Southie” section of Boston.
At an early age, Huggan began her work history at Liggett’s Soda Fountain and Ice Cream Counter, soon after taking a position as a sales clerk at downtown Boston’s Jordan Marsh, later as a as a payroll clerk at MIT in Cambridge. Following a break to relocate to Groveland and raise her family, she worked at the IRS as a tax examiner, at AVCO in civilian contract support at the department of the Air Force and finally as inside sales support for Hewlett-Packard, from where she retired after 16 years.
In addition to her dedication to her work, Huggan took time to travel with her husband, visiting 47 states and many national parks. She was an avid “Star Trek” fan, and followed NASCAR, visiting several racetracks during her travels. She spent significant time vacationing on Cape Cod. She enjoyed camping, collecting shells, rocks and fossils, learning about history and astrology. Though she kept active with her many interests, the overwhelming focus and joy of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she truly adored.
In addition to her late husband Robert who passed away in 2015, and her parents, Huggan was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald L. Venis of Dorchester Mass. and Jerome E. Venis of South Boston.
She is survived by children Grace M. Marcoux and her husband Timothy J. of Haverhill, Elizabeth A. Giampa of Groveland and William A. Huggan and his wife Jennifer A. Rollins of Haverhill, four grandchildren Anne V. Marcoux and her partner Ryan Deroo of Danvers, Scott A. Marcoux, Danielle C. Giampa and her partner Gustavo Martinez and his daughter Aliyah Martinez of Methuen, Stephanie L. Giampa and her partner Peter DeRoche of Haverhill, two great-grandchildren (Anne’s children) Sienna J. Lynch and Graeme M. Lynch, a dear cousin Deborah A. Venis, as well as several nieces and nephews. As she was always the center of her family, she will be greatly and sadly missed and very lovingly remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Monday, Oct. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. A private graveside service will take place in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army and to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
