Emmaus holds its 16h Annual “Paving the Road Home” Breakfast, Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Hartleb Technology Center at Northern Essex Community College.
Sponsored by the Merrimack Valley Credit Union, the theme for this year’s free fundraising breakfast, “Action in Compassion Rebuilds Lives,” will be highlighted throughout the event with guests witnessing first-hand how Emmaus helps those experiencing homelessness.
“Our annual breakfast is a great opportunity to learn about Emmaus for the first time, or to reconnect with our organization,” said Emmaus’ Director of Philanthropy Gretchen Arntz. “Each year we bring together an amazing group of community leaders, generous donors, devoted volunteers, and concerned citizens. We are thrilled to return to Northern Essex Community College again this fall for an inspiring event that is bound to leave lasting impressions on everyone gathered.”
More than 220 community leaders and friends of Emmaus attended last year’s breakfast. Over the past 15 years, guests of this breakfast have contributed more than $876,748 to Emmaus in tax-deductible gifts. Emmaus adds, every gift counts and will benefit those impacted by homelessness.
Since 1985, Emmaus, a non-profit community housing organization in Haverhill, has helped more than 30,000 children and adults out of homelessness and toward self-sufficiency. This past year alone, Emmaus has helped 2,478 people, including 1,238 children through its shelters and housing programs. On any given night, 300 adults and children will call Emmaus “home.”
In addition to its emergency shelters for families and individuals, Emmaus owns and operates 97 units of permanent affordable housing, serves over 80,000 meals annually, provides food in a regular basis to those residing in Emmaus housing, provides enrichment programs for school-aged children through Emmaus Explorers, and offers adult education and job-readiness programs through the Empowerment Program. In the course of one year, more than 700 volunteers serve at Emmaus.
Executive Director Jeanine Murphy also plans to give her annual update on the state of the agency. This year’s Community Hero Award will recognize long-time Emmaus volunteer and benefactor Cathy Catalano Scott of Merrimac.
Doors open and registration begins at 7:15 a.m., with a breakfast buffet served from 7:30-8 a.m. The program begin at 8 a.m. and lasts one hour.
