Workers found what is believed to be a small package of what is believed to be the deadly drug fentanyl on the floor of an Andover company Thursday.

Andover Fire Rescue Chief Michael Mansfield said the package contained white powder, and Vicor Corporation employees decided to call Fire Rescue after the 2:30 p.m. discovery.

Andover Fire Rescue requested help from the state Department of Fire Services District 6 Hazardous Materials Team because of the unit’s specialized training and equipment.

The chief said crews arrived on scene, took custody of the package, secured it, and took it to an off-site testing location. The powder is believed to be fentanyl or a similar substance.

No one was injured, and the incident is under investigation.
