Robert R. Lavalley, 88, Korean War Veteran; Plumber

Robert R. Lavalley, 88, of Haverhill, husband of the late Norma L. (Tegos) Lavalley, his wife of 59 years, passed away Sept. 24, at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport with his family by his side.

Born in Amesbury, he was the son of Robert H. and Edith (Colby) Lavalley. He attended Amesbury Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1948. Lavalley served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious conduct. He was employed with Wolf Plumbing and Heating in Haverhill before working as head plumber for more than 20 years at Foss Manufacturing in Haverhill. He finished his career as a maintenance supervisor for Tek-Coating in Amesbury. Lavalley was known for his dedication, hard work and patriotism to his country. He enjoyed gardening and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events as well as being a New England sports fan. He loved his extended family at the Salisbury Assisted Living Residence. He looked forward to the holidays with family, especially Christmas.

Lavalley is survived by his children, Debra Gagne and her husband Thomas of Salisbury, Robert Lavalley of Redwood, Calif.; and Lisa Toohey and her husband Brian of Brookfield, N.H.; grandchildren, Joshua and Allison Gagne, Adam and Kate Gagne, Phil and Amanda Gagne, Brian Toohey, Cameron Toohey, Austin Toohey, Rose Lavalley, Rae Lavalley; great grandchildren Troy, Brooke, Tyler, Morgan, Grant, Quinn and Max Gagne; brother James Lavalley of Amesbury. In addition to his wife Norma, he was predeceased by his sisters, Edith Bell, Dorothy Blaisdell and Bernice Boudreau and brother in law Stergios Tegos.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 4-7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services are Thursday at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial follows in Hillside Cemetery, 750 Broadway, Haverhill.
