Time to renew your driver’s license or renew registration?

If so, you may be one of the first to take advantage of the state Registry of Motor Vehicles office that opens today at RiversEdge Plaza in Haverhill.

AS WHAV reported last summer, the registry is taking over the former CVS pharmacy at 229c Lincoln Ave., near the Groveland line. Between Friday and today, RMV moved from City Hall remaining records and equipment to a nearly 6,000 square-foot space, Officials describe the new storefront office as “fully accessible and features a customer-friendly design, additional workstations, a larger customer seating area and ample free parking.”

Besides licenses and registrations, the new location offers driver’s license permit tests with a dedicated testing room and six testing machines. There is also a dedicated “business-to-business” area for insurance agents and automobile dealers.

Movement of the Registry also helps free up parking spaces around City Hall. The Registry office moved to City Hall from Merrimack Street during cost-cutting decades ago.
