Eleanor M. West, 89, Former Yum Yum Shop Cake Decorator

Eleanor M. West, 89 of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Ivy Hill Court (Stevens-Bennett) surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Jan. 27, 1929 in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Richard and Adelaide (Peaslee) Walsh.

West was raised in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1947. She was employed with Mitchell’s Department Store in downtown Haverhill for several years and was also a cake decorator with Haverhill’s Yum Yum Shops. She was proudly employed with Western Electric as a coil winder for over 20 years, retiring from Lucent Technologies. West was a member of The Haverhill Women’s City Club, a volunteer at Merrimack Valley Hospital and dedicated her time and talent with Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport knitting baby hats for newborn infants. She was a longtime member of Haverhill’s Portland Street Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker who always put her family before herself. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her loving family and friends.

West is survived by her two children, Donna Therriault and husband Michael of Haverhill, and Richard West of Haverhill. She will also be dearly remembered by her four adoring grandchildren, Andrew Therriault of Boston, Ryan West of Haverhill, Devin West and wife Taylor of Plaistow, N.H., and Rachael Bator and husband Matthew of Newton, N.H. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Conner and Tucker West, several nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends including Doris Dodier, Priscilla Hubley and Bea Libby. West was predeceased by Donald West, whom she married in 1947. Her family would like to thank Merrimack Valley Hospice and Ivy Hill Court (Stevens-Bennett) for the kindness and care they provided Eleanor.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at The Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830. A service will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Bradford. In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests that donations in West’s memory may be made to The MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
