Republican Rick Green takes on either Lori Trahan or Dan Koh in November’s state congressional election, and the Pepperell-based businessman isn’t mincing words when it comes to the fallout from last week’s Democratic primary.
Issuing a statement after Secretary William F. Galvin exerted executive control over election offices in Lowell and Lawrence Monday due to “administrative errors,” Green slammed his potential challengers.
“Today’s news questioning the integrity of our elections is incredibly disheartening,” said Green, siding with voters in the impacted counties, including the 3rd Essex District of Haverhill.
“(Voters) deserve fair and impartial elections. I am the only candidate running to represent the 3rd District who cannot be bought,” said Green, the co-founder and CEO of online auto parts company 1A Auto.
As a potential recount of democratic ballots cast in the 3rd District looms, Green vows to be ready for the second Tuesday in November.
“Our campaign will continue to focus on the issues most important to you: empowering economic growth, fixing our crumbling infrastructure, and addressing the opiate crisis head on,” Green said.
Green’s commentary comes after the Trahan campaign asserted that her vote margin over Koh had doubled, thanks to the inclusion of provisional ballots. Originally ahead by 52 votes, Trahan’s new lead is said to be 131 votes. Secretary Galvin’s office has impounded all ballots in the event of a recount, which could take place later this week.
