Carmine M. LoConte, 83, Army Veteran, Served 10 Years on City Planning Board

Carmine M. LoConte, 83, of Haverhill, passed away, surrounded by his family, Monday night, Sept. 10, at Lawrence General Hospital.

LoConte was born in Haverhill on Jackson Street and was the son of the late Pasquale and Olympia (Marchiano) LoConte. He was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years as a pipefitter, planner and estimator.

His surviving family members include his loving wife of 61 years Mary (Janowski) LoConte; sons and their wives, Patrick and wife Denise (DiStefano) LoConte of Sandown, N.H., John and Robin (Cox) LoConte of Methuen, Carmine R. and Diana (Mancuso) LoConte of Salem, N.H.; a daughter Mary and her husband Tim Hayworth of Spring Hill Florida; 18 grandchildren including Joseph, Kathleen, Anthony, Dominic, Joanna, Amanda, Shannon and David LoConte, Daniel, Rachel, Sarah, John, Andrew, Jacob, Ruthie, Jason Lynch, Savannah and Joseph Cox; 1 great-grandchild Gianna Carmen Diaz; several nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt Gracie Marciano.

A pillar in the Haverhill community, LoConte served as a member of the Planning Board for the City of Haverhill for 10 years. He also dedicated much of his time to the historic Victor Emanuel Sons of Italy Lodge in Haverhill as well as the Sons of Italy Drum and Bugle Corps where he served as Drum Major for several years. At the Lodge, LoConte served as an officer for almost 50 years including a term as president. He was awarded with the Golden Lion from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. Additionally, he was widely recognized for his contributions to the Italian-American community and his efforts to keep alive the Italian culture.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Friday, Sept. 14, from 4-8 p.m. at Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave. Haverhill. A Funeral Mass takes place Saturday at 11 a.m., from Saint John the Baptist Parish, 110 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial takes place at Saint Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill.
