Thomas A. Carey Jr., 80, 32-Year MBTA Employee

Thomas A. Carey Jr., 80, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Born in Medford on March 22, 1938, Carey was the son of the late Thomas A. and Catherine (Matthews) Carey.

He was educated in the Medford school system and graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1956. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. After his honorable discharge he started his 32-year career at the MBTA.

Carey loved classic cars, enjoyed going to car shows and reading. Above all else, he loved his family, ‘his girls,’ and being a Grampy.

He was predeceased by his sister Jane C. Thompson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary R. (Scott) Carey of Haverhill, three daughters Kristen Kilcommins and her husband Michael of Harvard, Patricia Carey-Hill and her husband Dwayne of Valencia, Calif., and Dawn Piekarski and her husband Matthew of Upton, four grandchildren Abigail, Grace, Sophia and Laura. As well as, his brothers and sisters-in-law Jim Scott, Kathleen McMahon, Joe Scott, Helene Scott and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., (Rt. 125) Bradford. His funeral service will follow the calling hours at 7:15 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of his family.
