Methuen’s Board of Health has confirmed that two mosquitoes collected from a stretch of I-93 have tested positive for West Nile Virus. As a precaution following the city’s first positive test this year, targeting spraying is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 4.
From 8-11 p.m., Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control plans to spray all streets within the boarders of Pelham Street to the north to Lowell Street (Route 113) to the east to Forest Street to the south to I-93 to the west. In the case of inclement weather, spraying takes place Wednesday.
The vehicle doing the spraying is a mid-sized white truck clearly marked with the company’s logo. Residents and pets are asked to remain inside during designated hours. While air conditioners can remain on, residents should close doors and windows on the street side until 30 minutes after the truck passes, officials said.
