Two months after longtime Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill Executive Director Brian Theirrien departed the city for a new role in Lynn, there’s a new guy in charge at the Emerson Street hangout: Javier Bristol.

A 27-year-old Haverhill native, Bristol tells WHAV his appointment as executive director is the latest role he’s assumed at the club over the years. Growing up on Haverhill’s High Street, Bristol—a former Boys & Girls Club lifeguard, coach and youth mentor—calls himself the quintessential “club kid.”

“You can look at me as an example: I was an inner-city kid in Haverhill and the Club gave me a path to seek different routes in life,” Bristol said. “It was a safe place and through its programming and sports helped me chase an education.”

Bristol began his new role two weeks ago, coming back to the city after five years in Boston working as a client services manager for State Street. He received his Master’s degree in business administration from Paxton’s Anna Maria College in 2012.

A previous member of the Club’s Board of Directors, Bristol told WHAV he is hard at work recruiting children for the Haverhill after school program targeted to elementary, middle and high school students.

Starting September 10, locals may receive homework help, utilize the Club’s gym and take part in reading and computer activities. Registration for the program is ongoing and interested families may visit 55 Emerson St., or call 978-374-6171 to schedule a tour.
