Sen. Barbara L’Italien made her last-minute pitch to Haverhill voters ahead of next week’s congressional primary during a Sunday afternoon gathering at Riverside Park, for the latest installment of her “Kitchen Table Conversations” series.
Several locals spent just over a half-hour chatting with L’Italien on the Unite for Justice National Day of Action to Stop Kavanaugh, a movement to fight President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. On the agenda: Protecting women’s rights, L’Italien’s advocacy of a caregiver stipend for children caring for their aging parents and her plan to improve prescription drug coverage through a bulk purchasing program.
“We need a more sane provision of care,” L’Italien said told the group of all-female attendees, which included medical professionals and an educator.
Sunday’s visit to Haverhill was one of three stops on L’Italien’s tour of the district that day. She also hit Acton and Lowell to greet voters. Should L’Italien win next week’s primary election, she’ll face Republican challenger Rick Green this fall in an effort to succeed retiring congresswoman Niki Tsongas to advocate for the 3rd district, which includes Haverhill.
