Biker down! Eagle-eyed visitors to the Bradford Rail Trail Friday may have noticed the metal David Borrus sculpture was removed. WHAV can exclusively reveal that the sculpture was the target of vandalism at 2:19 p.m. Thursday afternoon, leaving the artwork toppled.

The freshly painted underside of the Basiliere Bridge near the sculpture base was also tagged with graffiti, a source told WHAV. It is unclear if the two incidents of vandalism are related.

Haverhill’s Public Works Department picked up the metal sculpture late Thursday for safekeeping and plans to assess damage before reinstalling the piece.

City officials are reviewing surveillance camera footage for leads on the person or people responsible for the vandalism, Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s office told WHAV. The complete video, courtesy of the Haverhill Police Department, is below. A reward of $200 is being offered for information leading to arrest of the vandal. Call Haverhill Police at 978-373-1212.
