The Haverhill-based Merrimack Valley Hope Mission seeks volunteers to help pack bagged lunches for distribution at the city’s GAR Park later this month.

Organizer Don Jarvis tells WHAV locals can lend a hand packing 100 brown bags next Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Newburyport Salvation Army, 40 Water St., or distributing lunches in Haverhill on Friday, Aug. 31.

Jarvis is also collecting hygiene kits to distribute to area men and women, including veterans at Haverhill’s Veterans Northeast Outreach Center. Residents may sponsor a kit by purchasing one through an Amazon.com gift registry, Jarvis said.

“Hygiene is critical, given that it is directly related to health and confidence,” Jarvis told WHAV. “Lacking hygiene can compound already existing issues. Donating these kits is our way to show that we care for our fellow community members. We have received 100 kits thus far. It would be nice if to filled my truck with kits!”
