Gerald W. Seward, 85, Retired from Lucent

Gerald W. Seward, a longtime Haverhill resident, died Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Prescott House in North Andover after a long illness. He was born in Haverhill on Sept. 25, 1933, son of Joseph Peter and Stella (Becksha) Sewasky.

Seward was educated at Haverhill High School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as Harvard University, Northeastern University, Merrimack College and Northern Essex Community College.

His electronics and naval design background had him working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Raytheon, Laboratory for Electronics, Litton Industries, Ingalls shipyard in Los Angeles and Pascagoula, Mississippi, SUPSHIPS in Boston, and at AT&T Technologies’ Network Systems, and the former Lucent Technologies from where he retired in 1997.

A private service will be held by family with arrangements by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Haverhill and Bradford. There will be no public calling hours.
