A 47-year-old Methuen woman is the second person to die following this weekend’s rip current incident at New Hampshire’s Seabrook Beach, police confirm to WHAV. Laura Cote passed away Monday, just hours after her husband, Michael Cote, succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Nicholas Haroutunian of the State Police Marine Patrol division said Laura died the day after she was pulled unconscious from the water and taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

On Sunday, her husband was also pulled from what police called “choppy water conditions” and rushed to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, where he was pronounced dead.

Four other swimmers swept up in the current were safely brought to shore by a beachgoer following the 12:30 p.m. Aid was administered to the swimmers by members of the U.S. Coast Guard and the State Police Marine Patrol, along with the Seabrook Police and Fire Departments and Hampton Fire Department.
