Methuen Man, 49, Drowns in ‘Choppy Water’ at Seabrook Beach

A 49-year-old Methuen man drowned amid, what were described as, “choppy water conditions” at Seabrook Beach, early Sunday afternoon.

The man, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, where he was pronounced dead. A 47-year-old Methuen woman was also taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with “life threatening injuries.”

New Hampshire State Police – Troop A reported receiving calls just before 12:30 p.m. of “multiple swimmers in distress in the water off of Seabrook Beach in Seabrook, N.H.” New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol, United States Coast Guard, Seabrook Police and Fire Departments and Hampton Fire Department rushed to the scene.

“A Good Samaritan was able to help the six swimmers to shore. Four of the six were not injured although two swimmers were unconscious when they were helped to shore and CPR was started,” according to a State Police statement.
