William E. Yeo, 71, President of Yeo Chevrolet

On Tuesday, Aug. 14, William E. Yeo, of Amesbury, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, from cancer-related complications at the age of 71.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1947 in Haverhill, to the late Lawson and Beatrice (Cram) Yeo and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1965.

He received his degree from Babson College in 1968 and joined his father in the family business, Yeo Chevrolet. In 1975, he became president of Yeo Chevrolet, expanding the company to include a leasing and rental division and become a Volkswagen dealer. He served as a past director of the Massachusetts State Automobile Dealers Association.

Yeo was an active member of the community and generously shared his time and talents. He served on the board of directors of First & Ocean National Bank of Newburyport. He was a past president of the Amesbury Industrial Foundation, a member and former trustee of the Main Street Congregational Church, and a past president and Paul Harris Fellow in the Amesbury Rotary Club. He was a member of the Warren Lodge, Aleppo Temple, and Scottish Rite.

Since childhood he enjoyed spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee and was an avid boater. He also enjoyed winters in Ocean Ridge, Fla. He received the greatest pleasure in spending time with his family and friends, and particularly enjoyed his role as “Grampy.”

He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Felton) Yeo and is survived by his two daughters Jennifer Yeo of Mountain View, Calif., and Sara Parisi and her husband Edward of Boylston, grandsons Andrew and Matthew, sister Mary Anne and her husband Peter Lane of Haverhill, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Andrew Yeo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 4-7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
