Clare L. (Hardy) Diggs, 92, Retired from AT&T

Clare L. (Hardy) Diggs, 92, of Bradford, passed away at home Wednesday, Aug. 1, surrounded by her family.

Diggs was born in New Haven, Conn., Sept. 17, 1925, daughter of the late, William H. and Anna Louise (Pierce) Hardy. She was educated in the New Haven school system. For many years she was employed at AT&T and retired in 1990.

She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, jazz music and spending time with her grandson. She was known for being feisty, her great wit and her “tell it like it is” candor. She was a generous person and was well liked.

Diggs was the wife of late Master Sergeant Clayton W. Diggs who passed away in 1970. She had traveled extensively in her lifetime living overseas and in various parts of the country while being an Air Force wife. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Marvin Hardy and Isabel Smith both of New Haven, Conn.

She is survived by her children, Susan L. Diggs of Bradford, Clayton W. Diggs Jr. of Bradford and Gladys Coffey and her husband Vernon of Lynnfield; and a grandson, Carson Coffey of Lynnfield.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Sunday, Aug. 5, from 3-5 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her funeral service takes place Monday, Aug. 6, at 10a.m., at the funeral home. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
