Drivers are being asked to add extra time to their schedule if they use route 28 in Andover beginning next Monday night and for the next six weeks.

Work continues on the $8.5 million replacement of the bridge that carries traffic over the MBTA railroad, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Construction takes place, weather permitting, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The traffic pattern also shifts Thursday, August 9, temporarily removing the dedicated left turn lane from Route 28 north onto Railroad Avenue. Officials said the change enables crews to carry out work including paving and roadway realignment. This phase is expected to be completed by the beginning of September.

Signs and traffic control devices will be used to guide drivers through the area.
