Groveland Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a shooter whose shots blew out both front windows of an automobile traveling through the town last week.
The woman driving the car suffered several cuts and bruises from the shattered driver’s and passenger’s side windows, according to Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen. An examination of the vehicle Wednesday, investigators found what appeared to be a 9 mm hollow point pistol round on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
“This is a very frightening situation that is uncharacteristic for a town like Groveland,” Gillen said. “We are actively investigating to determine the facts and circumstances behind this incident, and we are asking anyone who may have heard or seen something out of the ordinary to call the Groveland Police Department.”
The driver, who was not identified, told Groveland Police she was traveling west on Main Street, near the Shanahan Ball Field, at around 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, when her passenger’s side window was suddenly cracked by a 1 1/2 to two-inch hole. The window then shattered completely, followed by her driver’s side window. She continued to her West Newbury home and called police.
No weapons were found in the area of the shooting, and residents did not report anything suspicious. While hunting is common in the area, a 9 mm round is most commonly used in handguns and is not typically used.
