Haverhill Man Dies After Being Struck While Skateboarding on River Street

A 27-year-old Haverhill man was struck and killed by a large truck while skateboarding early this morning on River Street.

The man, whose name is being withheld until notification of next of kin, was struck just after 3:30 a.m. near 747 River St., east of Westgate Center. The street also carries traffic for state routes 110 and 113. He was hit by a white, 2016 Freightliner M2-102 truck, driven by a Salisbury man, that was traveling west. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the 26,000-pound truck. An investigation is underway by Mass. State Police Crash Reconstruction Analysis Section and Haverhill Police.
