The Rite Aid pharmacy and drugstore at 2 Water St., Haverhill, is set to close for good within the next two weeks amid a national buyout by Walgreens.
The closure comes on the heels of the 2017 purchase by Illinois-based Walgreens of 1,932 Rite Aid stores nationwide, making it one of the largest pharmacy chains next to CVS.
Pharmacy operations at the Water Street Rite Aid conclude at the close of business on Thursday, July 12, and all patient records will be transferred to the Walgreens at 310 Main St., once the pharmacy is closed.
The Water Street store will remain open for about two weeks to allow for the final sale of all products, Walgreens Senior Media Relations Manager James W. Graham told WHAV.
Graham said the Walgreens corporate team is making “every effort” to relocate employees to other store locations.
Closing stores including the Water Street location will “ensure we have the right stores in the right locations to create a more focused network of stores that can deliver the greatest value for our customers,” said Graham.
He declined to elaborate on the future of the Rite Aid location at Bradford’s 68 South Main St.
