Two Maine men were arrested by State Police Thursday during a traffic stop in Haverhill, netting unlicensed guns, drugs and more than $3,000 in cash.

Trooper Michael Gerniglia was sitting in his cruiser on the city’s Route 125 stretch just after 3 a.m. when he saw a Ford Taurus pass with a defective plate light. Initiating a traffic stop, Gerniglia found driver Nicholas A. Tanous and passenger Travis J. Dickey in possession of a handgun, ammunition, a BB pistol resembling a real pistol, 12 white pills believed to be Xanax and a digital scale that contained what is believed to be heroin residue.

Cash totaling $3,790 was also seized, State Police said.

Neither man was licensed to carry a firearm in Massachusetts, resulting in variety of gun possession charges in addition to the drug possession offenses.
