No injuries were reported after a car fire closed off a portion of Interstate 495 South in Bradford just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Haverhill Fire Chief William F. Laliberty told WHAV the incident occurred at exit 48 of the highway just south of the Ward Hill Connector. The car was in the breakdown lane as it burned.

Thursday’s rush hour traffic was backed up for several miles and one lane closed as officials worked to extinguish the blaze and clear the vehicle from the highway.
