Emma M. (Viola) Metcalf, 95, Former Bookkeeper

Emma M. (Viola) Metcalf, 95, of Haverhill passed away peacefully on Friday, June 29 in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of the late Clayton Metcalf. Born in Madbury, N.H., on Dec. 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Marino and Letizia (Belmonte) Viola.

Metcalf was raised in Haverhill having attended local schools. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who was also employed as a bookkeeper with Hunkins Jewelers in Haverhill for several years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and time with her family. She will be dearly missed by those blessed to have known her.

Metcalf is survived by two daughters, Linda J. Metcalf and Karen A. Mann and husband Robert. She will also be fondly remembered by her two adoring grandchildren Katie and Ben, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, July 6 from 4-6 p.m. at The Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from The Saint John the Baptist Parish, 110 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial will take place at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Haverhill. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Metcalf’s memory to the Trustees of the John Greenleaf Whittier Birthplace c/o John Greenleaf Whittier Birthplace, 305 Whittier Road Haverhill, MA 01830-1738.
