Haverhill Man Killed by MBTA Commuter Rail Train in Lawrence

A 49-year-old Haverhill man was struck and killed by a MBTA commuter rail train in Lawrence on Friday, a spokeswoman from Essex County District Attorney Jonathan A. Blodgett’s office confirmed.

Lawrence police responded to a call just after 11 a.m. for a report of a person struck by the train near 65 Merrimack St. Spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan told WHAV the train clipped the legs of the victim as he sat on the platform next to the tracks.

Kimball-Monahan added that the train conductor blew his whistle to warn the man and used his emergency breaks to avoid striking him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not yet been released. The accident remains under investigation by State Police troopers assigned to the district attorney’s office.
