Haverhill’s downtown restaurant scene is expanding with the introduction of Wingate Street’s Shoe City Bistro, now open above Peddler’s Daughter at 45 Wingate St.

Owned and operated by the Peddler’s Daughter’s Michael and Mags Conneely, Shoe City is managed by Haverhill’s Mackenzie Smerdon, a restaurant vet who dished to WHAV about the new spot’s menu.

Shoe City Bistro serves a full cocktail menu with infused liquor and teas.

Smerdon calls the restaurant’s menu “completely different” from the traditional pub fare served by their Irish neighbor.

“It’s more of an upscale menu with prime ingredients, super contemporary dishes. (Chef) Sacha makes sure things are the same out of the kitchen every time. The feedback we’ve gotten so far has been awesome,” Smerdon tells WHAV.

Shoe City Bistro’s menu is overseen by chef Sacha Talarico, who makes several pasta dishes fresh daily. Another customer favorite, says Smerdon, is Shoe City’s escargot appetizer. Starters range from $10-13 and dinner entrees are $18-35.

As Smerdon tells WHAV, the Conneely’s aim to create an upscale-yet-casual dining experience.“We wanted to fill the whole of fresh food with an upscale, contemporary vibe while keeping it casual and comfortable,” Shoe City’s manager said. “Everything is on our menu is something you won’t see elsewhere in Haverhill.”
