Haverhill Schools to Close Early Monday Because of Predicted ‘Oppressive Heat’

With Wave Weather predicting high temperatures in the 90s, Haverhill Public Schools are scheduled to observe half days Monday. Likewise, Whittier Regional Vocational High School also planned to close in the morning.

Staff and parents were notified Sunday afternoon of the early Haverhill closings by Superintendent James F. Scully.

“…by noon time tomorrow some schools are going to be dealing with oppressive heat,” Scully wrote. Each school is following its previously assigned half-day early dismissal schedule. The superintendent advised parents to check individual school calendars for specific early dismissal times.

Whittier Tech planned to send students home after fourth period, approximately 10:45 a.m. Whittier’s final exams will still take place as scheduled starting Tuesday.

Good news for students: the half day has no effect on the last day of school, which is scheduled for this Friday.
