Jean F. (Hourigan) Mooney, 88, Former Hairdresser, Seamstress

Jean F. (Hourigan) Mooney, 88, a 53-year resident of Bradford, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, June 6.

She was born in Boston on Jan. 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Frances and Dora (Titus) Hourigan.

Mooney was educated in the Randolph school system and graduated from Randolph High School. After completing high school, she earned a hairdressing certificate in Boston.

For many years she was able to make a warm and loving home for her family. In her free time Mooney enjoyed sewing; she was an excellent seamstress, she enjoyed creating garments and custom window treatments for her family. She spent hours restoring antique furniture and took great joy in hosting family events and cooking, especially for her grandchildren, who were truly a joy in her life.

She was the wife of 66 years to the late William F. Mooney who passed away in 2016 and the mother of the late Christine A. Young who passed away in 2002.

Mooney is survived by her daughter Jean Harizi of Quincy, three grandchildren,Andrew Young of Lubbock Texas, John Harizi of Quincy and Beau Harizi and his fiancee Erin Flaherty of Rockland as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, June 15, from 9-10 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:15 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
