Aline B. (Lachance) Poirier, 86, Retired from Lucent

Aline B. (Lachance) Poirier, 86, of Haverhill died on June 12 at the Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Saint Robert Bellarmine, Beauce, P. Q. Canada on Nov. 12, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Delia (Gagne) Lachance. Being one of 14 children, she told many wonderful stories of her memories growing up on a farm in Canada. She was raised in a musical family with many of her siblings playing musical instruments. Poirier and her sisters were the singers of the family and at most group gatherings, she was requested to sing some of her many French songs.

She was educated in Canada and immigrated to the United States at the age of 19. She worked in the Haverhill shoe factories and also for Lucent Technologies, where she retired after 25 years of service.

A parishioner of All Saints Parish, formerly St. Joseph’s Parish, Haverhill, Poirier enjoyed traveling locally and abroad with her husband, Roland, spending many vacations at Bailey Island, Maine and visiting family in Canada. She enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, singing and dancing, especially ballroom dancing and square dancing and was a member of St. Theresa’s Dance Club where she enjoyed line dancing.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roland J. Poirier, four sons George Poirier and his wife, Robyn (Nowell) of Bradford, John Poirier and his wife, Jean (Rogers) of Haverhill, Daniel Poirier of Haverhill and Carl Poirier and his wife, Ilona (Rako) of Bradford, three grandsons Jared Poirier and his wife, Patrice, Drew Poirier and Ethan Poirier, all of Haverhill and one great-granddaughter, Logan Darby Poirier, two brothers, Florent Lachance and his wife, Monique (Moreau) of Laval, P. Q. Canada, and Reginald Lachance and his wife, Jocelyne (Moreau) of Hollywood Hills, Fla., a sister, Georgette Lachance of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and many nieces and nephews from Hampton, N.H., Florida, Michigan and Canada.

She was pre-deceased by brothers, Adrien, Gedeon, Fernand, Adari and Rene and sisters, Irene Mercier, Marcelline Brosseau and Dianne Lambert, all of Canada, Cecile Jacques of Hampton Beach, N.H., and Jeannette Lachance of Haverhill.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, June 15, from 4-7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral will begin on Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial following at noon at All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
