Haverhill small business leaders came together to celebrate their own June 7 at the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce’s 102nd annual gala dinner. Honored at the Bradford Country Club dinner were four local leaders who put the “made in Haverhill” mantra into practice through their community outreach efforts.

Haverhill City Council Vice President Thomas J. Sullivan received the Chamber’s Community Leadership Award. In an acceptance speech that doubled as a tribute to his parents, John T. Sullivan and Lorraine Pauline Levasseur, the city attorney said their legacy as public servants inspired his own efforts.

“I will leave you with two quotes from my father that appeared in the local media back in the day that obviously resonated with me as I go about doing my own community service, sometimes quietly and sometimes not so much,” Sullivan told attendees including Mayor James J. Fiorentini, Rep. Andy Vargas and Rep. Diana DiZoglio.

“The first thing he said was this: “Life’s too short. You’re going to be dead longer than you live. Enjoy life while you can. And what else do you have to live for but your kids.’ The second one is this: ‘Community service—that’s what we’re supposed to do…everybody helping each other. The whole world would be better off if everyone helped each other.’ I was paying attention Mom and Dad,” Sullivan said.

The night also featured remarks from Mayor Fiorentini and Haverhill-based metal sculptor Dale Rogers, who delivered the event’s keynote speech.

Alpha E Consulting’s Eva Montibello and Eric LaFleur of NorthEast Computer Services were recognized with the Chamber Service Award and Charles E. Billups Award, respectively.

Jason Petrou, of CEO Beverages, was presented with the Jerry Loy Outstanding Director of the Year honor.
