Haverhill thrift shop Ruth’s House is one of 100 local nonprofits selected to receive a $100,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation to bolster their fundraising efforts across the Merrimack Valley.
Chosen from nearly 600 applicants, Ruth’s House is the fourth Haverhill organization to be selected in recent years. Emmaus and Opportunity Works were chosen in 2017, while Career Resources Corporation received funding in 2016.
“Ruth’s House is very thankful that the Cummings Foundation has chosen to help us to continue to serve the needs of many in our community who require job training and the basic necessity of clothing,” Ruth’s House board president Barbara Donegan told WHAV in a statement.
With the funds, the Lafayette Square nonprofit plans to hire a fundraising program manager to further the 36-year-old agency’s mission to clothe Merrimack Valley residents in need.
Donegan and Ruth’s House board member Harriet Brooks joined other grant recipients to celebrate the honor during a reception Thursday in Woburn.
