A Northern Essex Community College senior scored a full scholarship to UMass Boston as part of the Foster Furcolo grant program.

Emeka Enwere, a native of Nigeria who now resides in Haverhill, was selected for the tuition award by NECC President Lane Glenn. Enwere is the school’s sole recipient of the award, which is given to one student from each community college across the state.

Enwere plans to further his education at UMass as an Information Technology major. He received an associate of science degree in computer and information sciences from Northern Essex during the school’s May 19 commencement exercises.

“This award means everything to me,” the graduate said. “It will reduce the financial stress associated with attending a four-year college and will help me accomplish my goals.”

The scholarship Enwere received is a UMass Boston-based transfer award named in honor of former Massachusetts Governor Foster Furcolo.
