Starting at 3 p.m., Relay encourages teams to walk together over a 24-hour period to fundraise and bring awareness to those fighting cancer. An official opening ceremony takes place at 6 p.m.

At least one person per team is asked to remain on the track during the entire event, signifying the fact that cancer never sleeps.

Local civic and community groups, including the Pentucket Kiwanis walkers who celebrate their 20th year, will cheer on survivors and supporters as they enjoy music, food and entertainment throughout the event.

A special caregiver lap and luminaria ceremony are among the activities taking place during Haverhill’s event.
