A 26-year-old Methuen man was indicted in a Boston federal court Wednesday in connection with a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy in and around Lawrence.
Carlos Torres was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute at least 400 grams of fentanyl and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling’s office said.
The indictment comes five weeks after police acted on a tip that a Lawrence-based Dominican national named Carlos Rodriguez would be delivering fentanyl to Torres’ home. Executing a search warrant, investigators arrested Torres and seized 700 grams of fentanyl, a firearm and ammunition. Approximately 150 grams of fentanyl was also seized from Rodriguez at the time of his own arrest. Rodriguez is also charged with one county of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.
Torres faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison.
Methuen, Andover and Lawrence Police were involved in the takedown of Torres, alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration.
