The efforts by Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon and Lieutenant Joseph Aiello to keep the city’s schools safe have earned national recognition from the School Safety Advisory Council, Mayor James P. Jajuga said this week.
Recognized for their efforts to curb school violence and bullying, Solomon and Aiello were lauded by their law enforcement peers during the 2018 School Safety Leadership Academy in Florida. This year was the fifth time the pair presented during the conference.
“The City of Methuen is very fortunate to have some of our nation’s most renowned experts on school safety and security and our citizens are safer thanks to their experience and expertise,” Jajuga said.
Solomon, who serves as the chairman of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association’s School Safety and Security Committee, was an early adopter of programs like the ALICE protocol.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our children,” said Solomon. “I am proud to be selected alongside Lt. Aiello to share our experiences with our colleagues.”
Solomon and Aiello are scheduled to present a session during October’s first-ever National Conference on Active School Shooters.
