NECC Knights Advance to Baseball Final, Track’s Mullins Sets School Record

The Northern Essex Community College Knights baseball team is advancing to the regional final after a 10-6 triumph over Massasoit Community College Sunday.

Pitchers Richard Reidy and Ryan Sharkey teamed up to strike out eight batters between them, while Ryan Collins, Kyle Hawes, Riley Magee and Nolan Steveens all recorded multiple hits.

The Knights were scheduled to face Quinsigamond Community College Monday morning at Haverhill’s Trinity Stadium.

Also this weekend, Northern Essex track stars Olivia Mullins and Katelyn Richardson took part in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national track and field championships.

Mullins placed 10th in the 1500-meter final, establishing a new school record of 5:26.91. She unseats previous record holder Laura Rudd, who logged a time of 5:35.99 in 2007.

High jumper Richardson finished in a three-way tie for sixth place Saturday, clearing a height of 1.34 meters. She currently holds the school record for that event.
